Lens Material Earns AOA Approval
Trivex, a lightweight, impact-resistant lens material from PPG Industries, has earned the American Optometric Associations (AOA) Seal of Acceptance for Ultraviolet Absorbers/Blockers. To acquire this acceptance, the material underwent an independent analysis that showed the lens material blocked at least 99% of UVA and UVB rays and at least 80% of radiant energy between 380nm and 400nm. Trivex has an ABBE value of 43 to 45 and a refractive index of 1.53 (546nm).

Punctal Plugs by the Pair
Form Fit, a long-term intracanalicular punctal plug from Oasis Medical Inc., is now available in a two-pack (one pair) box. The plug measures 3.0mm in length and 0.3mm in diameter. Once the hydrogel material touches the tear film, however, it expands into a gelatinous, moldable material. Form Fit can expand to 20 times in volume of its original size, the company says.

Form Fit requires about 10 minutes to become completely hydrated, Oasis Medical says. Once wet, the plug corks the vertical canalicular cavity, without an anchor or cap. Removal is possible by flushing the punctal opening with saline solution, the company says.
