Eye4 glasses by Eyedaptic for low vision patients.

The new Eye4 augmented reality glasses by Eyedaptic may give your low vision patients a better chance at performing daily tasks such as reading and using a computer. An upgrade to previous models, the Eye4 allows the glasses to be tethered to a smartphone, giving it dual functionality as both a wearable and handheld magnifier, the company explains.

Since most of Eye4’s technology is in the phone’s all-in-one interface, the glasses themselves can remain light and compact, weighing in at just three ounces, says an Eyedaptic press release. Powered by a cell phone tether (using either the patient’s own device or the one that comes with Eye4), the glasses feature two high-resolution cameras aided by image processing technology, the company notes. Other key features of Eye4 include auto zoom mode, image stabilization and contrast enhancement.

The company says its clinical research demonstrated that patients wearing the smart glasses had a fivefold greater ability to perform daily activities. This hands-free eyewear solution may help the growing population of people with retina-related vision challenges, including age-related macular degeneration, lead more independent lives, Eyedaptic suggests.
