Now and Then

A practice can change a great deal in just a few years. That’s why Women In Optometry likes to reconnect with previously featured ODs to see what’s new in their business ventures. Here are three unique transitions.

Sisters Switch Ownership Roles

Sisters Switch Ownership Roles

We first spoke with Ehryn Cartwright, OD, back in 2015 about the cold start of her practice Eyecare on the Square, which she opened in 2013. When we checked in on this practice last year, we learned that one of Dr. Cartwright’s sisters, Carly Rose, OD, FAAO, had taken on the role of practice owner, while Dr. Cartwright still works in the practice as an associate. It’s been the best fit for both of them, and their other sister even works with them, too.

Opportunity for Second Practice

Monica Ma, OD, and her husband Jonathan Reynon, ODshared their successes of opening in a growing community when they opened their first practice, Parkside Eye Care, in 2016. In 2019, they opened InView Eye Care, replicating their best practices and taking lessons learned from their first cold start this second time around.

First Remodel by Choice, Second Forced by Fire

Back in 2015, we caught up with Julie Brown, OD, and Shannon Zollinger, OD, after they took on a DIY approach to their office space, which was even featured on the DIY Network show, Salvage Dawgs. But in September 2017, their office set fire on a Sunday afternoon, leaving them to start from scratch again. After working in a temporary office space for many months, they moved into their new office space in December 2018.
