This is Review of Optometrys 10th Annual Comanagement Report. As such, I thought it appropriate to introduce you to the staff with whom I comanage every month to produce this magazine. Their efforts too often go unnoticed, but their skills are invaluable to Review and to me.

Jeffrey S. Eisenberg, Managing Editor

I have been with Review of Optometry since August 1993. Ive covered managed care, practice management, contact lenses and, in recent years, Ive helped shape Review of Optometrys clinical coverage. In 1999, I won a Neal Award for Best News Coverage for The Philadelphia Experiment: What It Means to You, a special report on the drive to unionize optometrists.

During my years at Review, Ive learned that were talking about much more than patients eyes. Were talking about the important role that optometrists play in patients overall health and quality of life. And, Im still amazed at how much the profession has evolved in the last 11 years that Ive been with the magazine.

John Murphy, Senior Editor

I was born the son of circus freaks. But growing up under the boring, humdrum Big Top is no place for an inquisitive child. So I lost myself in books, such as Favorite Cheeses of U.S. Vice-Presidents 1853-1961 and Great Pencils of Vermont

It wasnt until I came across a discarded paperback of Kurt Vonneguts Slaughterhouse-Five that I read about Review of Optometry, prominently mentioned in that book. A rainbow appeared in my gray sky.

With only a dream in my heart and a pocket dictionary in my pocket, I ran far away from the dull, dismal, dreary circus to join the colorful, exciting, vibrant, razzmatazz world of trade medical publishing.

Im sure that you, Dear Reader, came to optometry in a similar way. If Review is your circus, then I hope to be your lion tamer, your strong man, your clown.

Christine Reisinger, Senior Associate Editor

I joined the Review of Optometry staff in January. For the last five years, Ive worked in different areas of medical publishing, such as psychiatric nursing and pediatrics. But for the last two years, Ive been working in the eye care field. You may know me as Christine Good; I was just married two weeks ago!

Immediately prior to joining RO, I worked on ophthalmology monographs and a glaucoma newsletter. However, Im glad to be working on Review of Optometry as I find optometry more appealing than ophthalmology because it focuses first and foremost on what is best for the patient.

Jennifer Kirby, Associate Editor

What I like about the eye care field is the constantly evolving research that often leads to new therapies, which optometrists can use to better their patients lives.

When I am not editing/writing for Review of Optometry, I enjoy reading (I am currently reading Killed: Great Journalism Too Hot To Print by David Wallis) and going to the movies. My most recent Big News is that my husband and I recently purchased our first home.

Frank Sau, Art Director

After I graduated from art school, I worked in several different fields in graphic design, including logo design and print advertising.

In my current position as the art director for Review of Optometry and Review of Ophthalmology, I think its vitally importantespecially for eye magazinesthat the graphic elements and text layout be visually appealing as well as easily perceived and understood.

When Im not designing pages, I like to go out for a good beer or for a good ride on my mountain bike.
